Privacy policy
What we collect, why, for how long — and what we do not do.
Version 1 — August 2026.
In short
We collect what we need to deliver what you ask for — and nothing more. The only trackers that go further, audience measurement and advertising, only load after you agree and can be refused in one click, at any time.
1. Who processes your data
Akèda Média, publisher of the site, whose contact details are given in the legal notice. For any question or request to exercise your rights: akedamedia@gmail.com.
2. What we collect, and why
| Situation | Data | Why | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simply reading | No personal data | — | — |
| Reader account | Name, email address, encrypted password | Identify you, open your access | Until the account is deleted |
| Order | Name, email, phone, country, details and amount of the order | Carry out the sale, issue the invoice | 10 years (accounting obligation) |
| Newsletter | Email address, date of sign-up | Send you what you asked for | Until you unsubscribe |
| Publication form | Contact details, content and documents submitted | Process and publish your request | 3 years after the last exchange |
| Expert area | Identity, biography, payout details | Publish your work and pay you your royalties | Length of the agreement + 10 years (accounting) |
3. On what legal basis
- Performance of a contract for orders, subscriptions, publications and payments to experts.
- Your consent for newsletters, which you can withdraw at any time.
- A legal obligation for keeping accounting records.
- Our legitimate interest for site security and fraud prevention.
4. Cookies and trackers
A cookie is a small file placed on your device. On Akèda, they fall into two families, and only the first is placed without asking for your opinion.
What is placed in all cases
These cookies are necessary for the site to work. Without them, you could not stay signed in, keep a basket or validate a payment. They are not used to profile you or follow you elsewhere, and are not passed on to anyone.
| Cookie | What it is for | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| WordPress session | Keep you signed in to your account | The session, or 14 days if you tick “remember me” |
| Akèda basket | Keep the items you have chosen | 7 days |
| Consent choice | Not ask you the question again on every page | 6 months |
What is only placed with your agreement
On your first visit, a banner asks whether you accept two things, which you can accept or refuse separately. Until you have clicked, none of these scripts is loaded : they are not just inactive, they are not downloaded at all.
| Category | Placed by | Why | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Audience measurement | Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited) | Knowing which articles are read, where readers come from, what brings them back. We then write what is truly useful to you. | Up to 14 months |
| Advertising | Meta Pixel (Meta Platforms Ireland Limited) | Measuring whether our campaigns on Facebook and Instagram really bring readers, and avoiding showing you the same advert ten times. | Up to 3 months |
What we pass on, and what we do not
If you accept audience measurement, Google receives the pages you view, the length of your visit, where you came from, your device type and a truncated IP address. We do not pass on your name, your email address or the personal details of your purchases.
If you accept advertising, Meta receives the pages viewed and, when a purchase is completed, its amount. Your email address may then be passed on in encrypted and irreversible form, solely to link the sale to a campaign. Meta cannot recover your address from this fingerprint.
Both companies are based in Ireland. Their processing may involve transferring data outside the European Union, governed by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Change your mind, at any time
The “Manage my cookies”link at the bottom of every page reopens the choice. A refusal takes effect immediately and takes nothing away from the site: you can read everything, buy everything and subscribe as normal.
We ask you again every six months, and whenever we change tool or purpose.
You can also block these trackers from your browser, or install a blocking extension: the site will keep working.
5. Who else sees your data
We neither sell nor rent your data. It is passed only to those who enable us to serve you:
- Our payment provider, to collect payment for an order. Akèda neither sees nor keeps any bank details : payment takes place with the provider, which only sends us a confirmation.
- Our hosting provider, which stores the site and its database.
- Our email service, for transactional messages and newsletters.
- Judicial or administrative authorities, upon a lawful request.
Some of these providers may host data outside Benin. We favour those offering equivalent protection guarantees.
6. What we do not do on behalf of others
Akèda relays calls for applications issued by third-party organisations. We do not collect any applications on their behalf : our forms prepare your message and send you to the organisation concerned, which then becomes solely responsible for the data you send it.
7. Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, object to, restrict and port your data. You can also set instructions for what happens to it after your death.
To exercise them, write to akedamedia@gmail.com. We reply within one month. Proof of identity may be requested if there is reasonable doubt about your identity.
If our reply does not satisfy you, you can refer the matter to thePersonal Data Protection Authority (APDP) of Benin.
8. Security
Passwords are stored encrypted and can never be read, including by the newsroom. Access to the administration is limited to team members. Documents sold individually carry a personal watermark, which identifies the buyer in case of redistribution.
9. Changes
This policy may change. The applicable version is the one published on this page, whose date appears at the top. Any substantial change is notified to account holders.
