Doing business and investing in Benin: 2026 review and opportunities
7% growth, 55,345 businesses created in 2025, but 80% informality: Benin has a profile few countries in the region offer. This study reviews the situation and examines seven value chains from an investor’s point of view.
In 2026, Benin holds a singular position in West Africa: that of a modest-sized economy — just over twelve million people — posting the highest growth in the West African Economic and Monetary Union, while meeting the zone’s convergence criteria. This combination is rare, and deserves to be examined without complacency or reflexive scepticism.
That is the purpose of this study, carried out by the consultancy Boost Coach Global and published by Akèda Média. It seeks neither to sell a destination nor to put it on trial: it brings together the available public data, puts them in perspective, and flags as clearly as possible where figures are missing or open to debate.
